About JASON KALIDAS

Jason Kalidas Indian classical musician and teacher

Dedicated to Indian Classical music ...

Jason Kalidas is a distinguished Hindustani classical Bansuri artist whose musical journey began at the age of 14 as a multi-percussionist. By 19, he was already immersing himself in long stays in India, dedicating himself to the traditional guru-shishya path of learning.

Over the past 26 years, Jason has trained rigorously in Indian classical music under several esteemed gurus. He began his studies in Tabla under Ishwal Lal Mishra in Varanasi, which laid a strong rhythmic foundation for his later work on the Bansuri (bamboo flute). His training in Raag music was guided by Dr. Shanish Kumar (Bansuri) and Manoj Dubey (vocal), a senior disciple of Pandit Channulal Mishra. He also had the privilege of studying under the legendary Pandit Rajendra Prasanna at his home in Delhi.

Jason’s artistry is deeply rooted in the spiritual essence of Indian classical music. He is passionate about the emotive power of Raasa, the aesthetic essence of feeling, and the music’s capacity to evoke deep inner transformation. His Bansuri playing is noted for its emotional depth and rhythmic precision, a result of his many years as a Tabla player.

Beyond traditional concert performances, Jason creates sacred music experiences, presenting Raags with live Tampuras in ceremonial and meditative settings. He has performed widely across India and the West at prestigious venues and festivals including the Darbar Festival, Sadler’s Wells (London), The Place (London), the United Nations Headquarters (New York), and MACBA (Barcelona), among many others.
