Tanpuras play an essential role on Indian classical music Thery kep the grounding drone , root pitch that all the notes in the music centre around . Tanpuras are unique drone instruments as they are deliberately  rich in overtones ( harmonics ) to create a full sound .

.Tanpuras play  a drone so richly textured that it can be listened to all alone. It's a very soothing and  meditative sound that is ideal for sound mediation or "naad Yoga "

On the cosmic level they represent the underly ever present consciouness that prevades everythiong , the ''OM". The back drop that life plays against

 The Tanpura anchors awareness and stills the mind. They can be used for your own personal meditation practice and like singing bowls they are very rich in harmonics they can be incorporated into sound healing.

Highly seasoned mahogany and traditional Gourds bases come together for the foundation .This is a very  small workshop that only build to order. Plenty of time is taken on the artwork and sonic balance of  each Tanpura with the  love and attention it needs.

Deciding which Tanpura.. 

Tanpuras  come in 3 sizes , Travel , Female and Male .

Female and male relates to  the tone off the human voice. Female Tanpuras are higher pitch but still deep and full , Male Tanpuras have the deepest sound  with more bass.

Travel Tanpuras are  made in a range similar to female Tanpura pitch but can be made even higher to the point of one hole octave above a male Tanpura. This can be discussed and arranged to be built to the pitch you prefer. Contact to ask about this.
